The Spires Shopping Centre ran a competition in conjunction with Foulds School in Barnet to encourage creative story writing in the lead up to World Book Day in March 2020. The competition was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the talent of their pupils, and the story had to be up to 300 words and include Barnet within the topic, a fun activity to get children excited about writing.
The Spires received some fantastic entries, and the shortlisted stories were all displayed at the centre on Saturday 14th March, at a Storytime event co-hosted with Barnet Library.
There were 3 age categories, with a winning story being chosen from each category. The ultimate winners were invited to read their stories at the Storytime event, and presented with a framed copy of the their story’s illustration professionally remastered by Minky Ninky (minkyninky.co.uk).
Centre Manager, Kris Weeks, commented: “We’re so excited to offer school children the chance to showcase their creative writing skills. With Barnet Library on our doorstep, it was a perfect partnership and we look forward to working with them in the future. We are also hugely thankful to Katherine Strong at the Foulds School for coordinating all of the story-writing at the school, and of course to all of the children who took part.”
