Spring Refresh!

Spring is here which means it’s time to freshen up your home and dust away those cobwebs, ready for what we hope will the better side of a rather groundhog year so far!

What better way to start the season than to have a good old fashioned clear out, and our stores here at The Spires can help you do just that!  See below for our top picks to get your home and garden spick and span and ready for a fun-filled spring/summer.

Dust away those cobwebs

A bustling family home gets used and abused at times, so give your home a little love and disinfectant! Dettol’s Lavender disinfectant from Savers cleans deep down, killing 99% of bacteria, and is so versatile it can be used on almost any surfaces. Add some freshness to your rooms with Febreze fabric spray (Savers), and Febreze bathroom air fresheners are also handy, small and discreet yet packing a powerful punch of cotton freshness.

It’s always nice to switch up your laundry detergent now and again to awaken your senses, and we love Lenor’s Unstoppable Spring Awakening (Savers), see, it’s in the name! This scent booster works in harmony with your fabric softener to enhance your laundry fragrance, making not only your home smell good but you too.

Time to declutter

Now you’ve got all your surfaces cleaned and fresh-smelling, a bit of reorganising and decluttering is your next job. Kid’s bedrooms are always a nightmare when tackling the big spring clean, especially if you have teenagers! This super cool locker from WHSmith is great for any teenager’s bedroom and looks very trendy too. Sometimes simple storage is best and The Works have a great range of plastic storage boxes, ideal for the home office or loft to keep all your items secure and dust-free.

Even the smallest of items need a little re-organising at times, and jewellery is no exception. This jewellery box from WHSmith is perfect for your valuables and has useful compartments to separate your rings from your earrings and necklaces.

Got endless amounts of throws or magazines in the living room? Pop them out of sight and out of mind in this handy wooden crate box (The Works), and if you fancy a little arts and crafts project, you can paint the box to go with your décor!

Home décor lift

Once things are looking tidier, it’s nice to add some fresh homely touches to your home, to lift and brighten things up. Add a personal touch to your living room with Card Factory’s personalised family tree cushion, in a neutral colour to go with any interiors.  Bring spring into your home with the scent of wild citrus with these candles (set of 2, Card Factory) and embrace the sweet-smelling aroma.

For the bedroom, why not treat yourself to a new set of fresh sheets such as this Jasmin Ochre duvet set from Roman. This beautiful design will bring a breath of fresh air to your room and make you wake up with a spring in your step.

Garden TLC

Last, but certainly not least, is outdoor space, which we hope to be using more often now warmer weather is approaching. Add some colour to your flower beds with Waitrose Seed Bombs, ideal for any gardening novice!  Simply scatter the bombs over the soil (no need to plant or fertilizer), then sit back and watch your garden blossom!

For those that want to put more of a spring in their step with a healthy boost, have a go at growing vegetables. This Allotment gardening book by Alan Buckingham (Waterstones) gives you a month by month guide on how to grow fresh, seasonal produce, and don’t forget the tools for the job, potter about the garden in style with these outdoor gardening gloves (Waitrose), just what you need for all your gardening chores.

If you’d rather spend an afternoon just sitting back and soaking up your surroundings, make it more environmentally friendly by encouraging more nature to your garden. Waitrose has this beautiful ceramic Bee Nest which is not only stunning to look at but brings happy buzzy bees to your garden.
