The Spires Shopping Centre is one of 140 shopping centres across the UK who took part in ‘One Great Day’ in June raising over £5,400 for Noah’s Ark Childern’s Hospice and Great Ormond Street.
The Spires Shopping Centre sought to raise money for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity by taking on a mammoth challenge by completed 20,000 press ups in just four hours! To ensure the team was motivated, The Spires gained the support of II Squadron, an elite parachute-trained field squadron from the RAF Regiment. Nicknamed ‘The Rock Apes’.
The two teams of six competed against each other at The Spires, with only one member in each team completing a press ups at any one time, so team work was imperative.
The teams were supported and motivated by the brilliant and funny duo, Mike and Mike, the wonderfully British and funny commentators.
The day also saw a silent auction and Tombola, with prizes generously donated by retailers at The Spires and throughout the high street, for which The Spires were extremely grateful for.
The Shopping Centre has raised over £5,400, which will be split between the two charities, with Great Ormond Street using this money and the money from all the other shopping centre to purchase 2 ECHO machines the hospital is in desperate need of.
The Spires would like to extend their thanks to everyone who donated and supported the teams in this epic but very fun challenge.
